As a printmaker Sickert produced over 266 prints, comprising etchings, engravings, drypoint, lithographs and a mixture of different media. He was ‘taught’ by the American artist, James McNeil Whistler, and following in his example drew directly on the plate in the same way as he might draw in a sketchbook. Glasgow Museums.

The artist died on January 22, 1942 in Bath, United Kingdom. In recent decades, Sickert has been portrayed in several fictional books as a potential suspect in the Jack the Ripper murders. These claims have never been substantiated and most historians believe them to be without merit. Running concurrently with the Berlin International Film Festival, at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele, there is a beautiful exhibition of some fifty posters by husband and wife graphic artists Margrit and Peter Sickert, who sign their posters simply “Sickerts.” Degas encouraged Sickert to tackle a wide range of subject matter, portraying urban scenes in Paris and Dieppe, including forms of entertainment such as music-halls and the circus. In 1888, Sickert joined the New English Art Club (NEAC) marking his coming-of-age as an artist and stepping out of the shadows of his mentors. English artist.
